GOOD NEWS: GOD’S SON JESUS CAME TO SEEK AND SAVE YOU
In Mark 1:14–15 (CSB) 14 … Jesus went to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God: 15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Some people are confused about what the good news is and what one must do to be saved. Jesus said that we must repent and believe the good news. Jesus, God’s Son, also said that He had come to fulfill the law not to abolish it. The law is the ten commandments found in the Old Testament. You can read them in Exodus 20.
They serve to help us live righteously, but they also serve to help us see that we can’t keep these laws. They make it clear that we all fall short of what God expects… perfection (Romans 3:23). Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever lied about something? Have you failed at keeping any of the commandments? Then you are guilty of sin, like us all. That is why the Bible also states that there is no one good, not even one (Psalm 14:1-3; Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:12).
If we humble ourselves and repent, God will forgive us. The shed blood of Jesus can wash away your sins and make you clean! Repent, is a word that means you must change your mind, your heart, and your direction, and put your trust in Jesus as your Savior, and be saved from God’s wrath.
The good news is that God can forgive you because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. 2,000 years ago, God sent His Son Jesus to lead a perfect, sinless life. His death on the cross satisfied God’s perfect law while demonstrating His love for you (Romans 5:8). Jesus willingly stepped into God’s courtroom and paid your fine (Romans 6:23).
In John 3:16 it says [with personal notations], “For God so loved the world [that includes you] that He gave His One and only Son, that whoever [again this includes you] believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We are not going to say that following Jesus is easy, because it’s not. But it is the best decision those at Leonardtown Baptist have ever made. Just come and ask us.
If you’re ready to accept Jesus as your Savior today, call upon the Lord Jesus Christ and make Psalm 51 your sincere prayer.
Psalm 51:1-17 (CSB) “1 Be gracious to me, God, according to your faithful love; according to your abundant compassion, blot out my rebellion. 2 Completely wash away my guilt and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you — you alone — I have sinned and done this evil in your sight. So you are right when you pass sentence; you are blameless when you judge. 5 Indeed, I was guilty when I was born; I was sinful when my mother conceived me. 6 Surely you desire integrity in the inner self, and you teach me wisdom deep within. 7 Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Turn your face away from my sins and blot out all my guilt. 10 God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach the rebellious your ways, and sinners will return to you. 14 Save me from the guilt of bloodshed, God— God of my salvation— and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it; you are not pleased with a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.”
